MISSION STATEMENT— Strong in the Word to serve in the World
VISION STATEMENT—To be a community of believers, growing in knowledge and in Spirit of the Word, working together in harmony as the hands of Christ in the World.
CORE VALUES —The Valleys upholds five uncompromising principles known as the Core Values. While our mission may change as needs of the world around us change, our Core Values remain the same.
Personal Faith in Jesus Christ — John 3:16For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the incarnate Son of God, who came to live among us, conquered sin and death, offering forgiveness for sin and assurance of eternal life for those who believe in Him.
The Word of God — II Timothy 3:16-17All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.
We believe the Bible is the only perfect rule of faith, doctrine and conduct. Our preaching and teaching reflects careful preparation, relevance, and creativity. Our people are equipped and growing in their ability to study and apply Biblical truth in ways that lead to a scripturally integrated life.
Worship and Prayer — Psalm 100, John 15:4-5Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing. Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name. For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 100)
Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:4-5)
We exalt and celebrate God for who He is, what He has done, what He is doing and what He will do. Worship reflects careful preparation to help give voice to many dimensions of response to God such as adoration, praise, contrition, lament, and commitment. We leave worship knowing something more about the heart of God and about our own heart.
Celebration of the Sacraments — Matthew 28:19, I Corinthians 11:23-26Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:19)
For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.(I Corinthians 11:23-26
We believe in two sacraments, baptism and the Lord's Supper. The sacraments are a visible and outward sign of an invisible and spiritual grace. In Baptism we welcome God's child into the community of faith and proclaim God's grace upon the newly baptized. In Baptism we also reaffirm our own baptismal vows, supporting our commitment to be the Church. In celebration of The Lord's Supper we move between thanking God for the gift of Christ and inviting worshipers to participate in his body through the bread and cup. At the Lord's Table we recognize Christ's presence, remembering his suffering, proclaiming his death until he comes again.
Faithful Discipleship — I Peter 2:9But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
We believe our purpose is to glorify God, celebrate new life in Christ, build up one another in faith and love, proclaim and teach the gospel, and care for the needs of the world.
